It strikes me that once you are HERE the question for many is Now What?
After coming to be HERE there really is nothing left but opportunity to experience. Obviously life being a contact sport you will get to experience a great variety of experiences. Some you will label “good” and others you will label “bad” The cool thing is that you get to decide. And, it is important to understand that this deciding happens after the fact and is up to you.
In the moment of an experience you get to experience a purity of experience unique to you. An experience that is neither good nor bad. It is just you experiencing. The most excellent thing is that we are free to have that experience and leave it or carry it. Your “good” experiences are worth keeping your “bad” ones are not. You are in charge of your attention.
When I was 13 years old I was hit by a car as I was crossing the road. It was the coldest night of that particular winter and as I lay on the ground spitting out blood and being strapped to a back board I certainly had an experience. That experience happened in a moment and as such I was free to fully engage in it. One might say there was no choice but to.
Here is the kicker. The experience happened and it was over. It was one moment in time. Had I come out of that experience afraid to cross the street that would have been of my making. That would have been carrying the experience forward and giving it meaning it didn’t have.
You get to experience moments twice. Once in their purity and again in how you keep them alive if you choose to do so.
