The Power of One-to-One Coaching

One of the things I love about being a coach is that I have the privilege of guiding clients through reconnecting them to their passion and purpose. It is an honour to watch clients light up while connecting the dots as they rediscover themselves and then sit back and watch the magic happen: their passion and purpose begin to shine again. That makes my clients’ happy and makes me happy as well.

I want to share a thread I have observed among successful professionals I have coached. 

Many of my clients work in the fast-paced corporate world. They are intelligent, capable high performers who find themselves up against a relentless flow of targets, deadlines, deliverables and ambition. These men and women are the engines that drive organizations forward, but sometimes, in the hustle and bustle of it, they lose sight of what truly fuels them – their passion and purpose.

High-performing individuals are known for their passion, dedication and ability to excel. However, even the most driven and passionate professionals can reach a point where they feel disconnected from their original passion and sense of purpose. Often, the more passionate and driven they are, the more likely this disconnect will occur.

As a young up-and-comer, my client had the chance to pitch an idea to a group of seasoned C-suites that my client knew would save the company money. My client shared that one of them outright laughed, but one saw something and offered an opportunity. They were rewarded with millions saved.

My client’s passion and purpose were fully displayed in that story, and we could both feel it. I asked them to tell me more about the person who walked into that meeting under those conditions and was successful. Who was that? What followed were words like authentic, fun, happy, fearless, confident, unconcerned about outcome and untamed; that simple question was the key to reigniting their passion and purpose.

One-on-one coaching can help high performers revisit their journey, change their perspective, trace their career paths and identify pivotal moments when their passion, purpose and happiness were most evident and they were at their best.
