Robins, Porches and Lessons in Life.

For the past 3 weeks or so I have been watching our resident Robins build their nest, lay eggs, hatch their offspring, care for them, and yesterday I had the privilege of watching 3 of the 4 hatchlings take their unsteady maiden flights.

It struck me that there must be some metaphor or analogy in all of this. I mean I spent hours over the past three weeks watching the miracle of life unfold. There must be something relevant in all of this that I could share. Perhaps some lesson in the simplicity of life or doing what was necessary. Something that we humans might apply to our own lives. Maybe some way of seeing ourselves in the Robin’s journey.

Turns out there is no metaphor or analogy there at all. Well, there likely is but I am not the one to write it. What I have been struck by after all these hours of watching is simply a deep sense of appreciation and gratefulness for having been able to observe this little bit of life play out on my front porch.

My takeaway. Life is just so very cool. It is creating through us, within us and all around us all the time. And, the more open we are to seeing this the more wondrous and inclusive our playground becomes.

Don’t worry about meaning making. Instead go and notice a little bit of the life around you and give it the appreciation it deserves. You will feel good for having done so 😀
